Jonathan R. Oliveira is an Assistant Professor in the Hart School of Hospitality, Sport & Recreation Management at James Madison University. He is also a Doctoral Candidate (ABD) in Recreation, Sport & Tourism
at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (USA). He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physical education with concentration in sociocultural aspects of sport and leisure, both at the Federal University of Paraná (Curitiba, Brazil), respectively in 2017 and 2021.

Passionate about traveling, research, football (soccer), and other sports, he has consistently published academic papers in several outlets in Brazil and abroad,
such as the Journal of Sport & Tourism, Sport in Society, The Journal of the Latin American Socio-cultural Studies of Sport (ALESDE), Brazilian Journal of Sport Sciences, Iberoamerican Journal of Tourism, Tourism in Analysis Journal.

(UFC) 198 in Curitiba – Brazil.

This study found UFC 198 in Curitiba was a
successful tourist attraction, generating R$ 45 million and
attracting 45,207 attendees. The city's established event
infrastructure and martial arts reputation contributed to
its success despite low international attendance.

Academic Conferences Support

In 2019, I organized the first academic seminar related to Sport Tourism at the Physical Education department during the "Academic Week". I was responsible for inviting tourism scholars and students and soccer clubs' representatives to debate and provide lectures regarding the job market and research opportunities related to sport tourism, focusing on undergraduate students. I also helped in the organization and planning of the II International Congress of Sports History, held in 2018.
